Sammi was tempted to stop in the hotel bar and spend Marc’s money, ordering the most expensive liquor in the place and lavishly tipping whoever served her, but when she went in the girl behind the bar took one look at her and immediately looked hostile. She whispered to another girl, who nodded and picked up a phone on the bar.

Son of a bitch! Sammi thought as she turned and flounced out. Fucking Marc had called down and warned them about her. Like she was some crazy girl. It was tempting to just go in and brass it out, but if they called the cops it’d be too much of a hassle. Fuck it, fuck them, and most of all, fuck Marc.

She left the hotel and hailed a cab. When the cabbie asked her where she was going she said, “The Mall,” without thinking. The Mall was always the best place to go when you didn’t know what else to do. It was where she had gone the day before, after seeing Frankie. She didn’t want to go home - in fact, home felt like a funny word for the house she had been in just the last night, with that tight-assed guy who’d spanked her. She shuddered at the memory.

The Mall was some distance from downtown, out in the suburbs. Sammi headed immediately for the best clothing stores, but most of the stuff on offer was too much like the frumpy blue suit she was already wearing. As soon as she noticed the fact, the suit displeased her even more. It was like something an old lady would wear!

She finally found herself in a place much more her speed, with some hot techno-music playing on the overhead speakers and a much younger, edgier clientele. Some of the girls stared openly at her - her hated suit was rumpled and her hair was kind of fucked up - but she pointedly ignored them.

The clothes on the racks were super cute, but a lot of them seemed ridiculously small - like tiny. Sammi frowned as she went through the racks, looking for something more her size. She remembered having had similar problems the day before; the outfit that she had eventually put together had required visits to several different shops.

“Are you sure you like belong here without your daughter?” a snotty voice said at her elbow. Sammi turned to confront a couple of slim young Asian girls, both expensively dressed in short-short skirts and high heels. One stood working her cell-phone, totally absorbed in texting someone. The other, in a cute hat and denim jacket, was the one who had addressed Sammi. She stood with hands on her hips, smirking at Sammi and looking her up and down like she was some kind of freak.

“I think the Grandma stores are like up in the other part of the mall,” she said.

“Why don’t you suck my dick, you little bitch?” Sammi returned, so fiercely that both girls actually took a step backward.

“Whoa!” the girl in the hat said, laughing and holding up her hands in surrender.
